Shorecrest Meeting notes (no quorum) - January 14, 2023
Shorecrest Board Meeting notes
January 14, 2023
By: Janet Martini
Call to order
Roll Call: Ken Shelton, Janet Martini
Maintenance and Architectural Committee: Elliott Pridmore
Office Manager: Carolynne Brown
Guest Speaker: Jeff Davis, Pioneer School District Superintendent
We had 10 property owners in attendance, which was great to see.
Due to the fact we did not have a quorum of board members this was not an official board meeting. Janet explained that we felt it was important to meet to answer any questions regarding the new roofs and the assessment of $30.00.
Jeff Davis talked first. He handed out a brochure and information on the new school levy coming up in February. We had one family in attendance that had a lot of questions for Mr. Davis. They were very knowledgeable about the school system their budget and policies. Mr. Davis addressed their questions. They have actually hired 41 new staff to handle the number of new kids coming into Pioneer district.
Once again it was stated that this was not an official board meeting and everyone was asked what questions they had. Most people were wondering why the board had not predicted the costs of the new roof and figured out a way to save money in advance for these costs. It was stated that we have not raised the dues for the past four years. We have the lowest HOA fees of all the HOA’s in the area. People asked why we couldn’t take the money out of savings, and Janet’s response was we had to have a reserve in case of an emergency. They asked why the land owners didn’t get to vote on it and we explained that the board can vote on assessments for large ticket items that need to be taken care of and also the HOA annual dues without a community vote. We talked about all of the improvements we have made to the property without raising dues.
One of the things the board needs to talk about is having a plan on what expenditures might come up in the next 5 years. Then we figure out ways of paying for those costs, either assessments or raising the HOA annual dues. Our annual budget is pretty tight now so if we have to add any major expenses, we need a way to cover those expenses.
The last item that was brought up was about the Water Company. They asked if there was anything we could do to help with the water company. Their comments were that the Water company was unresponsive, there wasn’t anyone to really help with issues. The office staff really didn’t have any answers to issues brought to them. They didn’t seem to want to help with issues or questions. They asked why they don’t have monthly meetings that they could attend. There was a lot of frustration regarding the Water company. Our response was that there wasn’t much we could do and they really needed to try and deal with the Water company with issues.
Our hope is everyone came away from the meeting with a better understanding of why we had to have the assesment.
Meeting was adjourned.
